Suzy Batiz: From Bankruptcy to a Billion-Dollar Bathroom Spray Empire

In this section, we love sharing stories of women who reinvent themselves at alter stages of their lives to celebrate and empower women, as well as to hopefully motivate you to pursue your goals, whether they are in career, health, family or other aspects of your life.

Today we will be sharing Suzy Batiz's journey from bankruptcy to millionaire status. When she decided to start the bathroom spray brand Poo-Pourri at the age of 41, she was well aware of the risks, having faced bankruptcy twice before in her life.

Her earlier setbacks included the loss of her bridal shop business at just 20 years old and the closure of a recruiting website at 38. Despite her initial vow never to accumulate debt or seek investors for a new business, Batiz couldn't resist the temptation to try again.

The spark for Poo-Pourri ignited during a family dinner in 2006 when her brother-in-law pondered whether bathroom odors could be trapped. Batiz began experimenting with essential oils and concoctions in her own bathroom. Though no one in her life was supportive of her starting another business, her past failures didn't deter her.

Now, at the age of 59, Batiz shares that she no longer needs external validation to drive her forward. She had discovered happiness within herself. She started by gifting her bathroom sprays to friends in 2007, and since then, Poo-Pourri has sold over 100 million bottles!

Despite her success, Batiz admits to occasional moments of fear, a reminder of her humble beginnings in poverty in Arkansas.

I wanted to share her story as an example, that past failures are not a reason to stop trying! As hard as it may seem, failures are simply part of the journey.

Have a wonderful weekend!
