On This Day In Women’s History:

December 5, 1890: Mildred Olmsted was born.

Mildred Olmsted, activist, an advocate of the Gandhian concept of nonviolent direct action, and organization secretary of the Pennsylvania branch of WILPF, held leadership roles in SANE and ACLU.

Louise Bourgeois: An Artistic Journey of Late Recognition

Louise Bourgeois, the French-American artist, defied conventions throughout her life, overcoming challenges to cement her legacy in the art world despite initial recognition being tethered to her husband's stature.

Primarily known as her husband Robert Goldwater's companion in the art world until her fifties, Bourgeois later gained renown for her monumental sculptures and immersive installations. Despite initial struggles, she became a household name in her seventies, continuing her creative journey until her passing at 98 in 2010.

Bourgeois' artistic odyssey commenced with a background in math and geometry before shifting her focus to art. Her solo exhibition in 1945 marked her entry into the art scene while joining the American Abstract Artists Group in 1954 solidified her presence among male peers like Jackson Pollock. Amidst this male-dominated arena, she grappled with balancing her artistic ambitions with her roles as a wife and mother, often battling anxiety attacks.

Her approach to her work was unique—though she hid much of it, she never destroyed any piece. Bourgeois advocated for finding pleasure in the act of creation itself, emphasizing the intrinsic value of learning for oneself. Her words echoed the idea that learning is an individual's prized possession, untouched by external influences.

Her legacy champions the essence of art and a remarkable story of finding recognition in the art world later in life.

AIR FRYER COCONUT SHRIMP TO TRY

đź‘Ť Live Well Now Approved | Low Calorie

You Will Need:

â…“ cup granulated sugar

â…“ cup rice vinegar

2 tablespoons chile-garlic sauce

½ cup water plus 2 tablespoons, divided

1 teaspoon salt, divided

1 tablespoon cornstarch

½ cup all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon garlic powder

2 large egg whites

1 cup unsweetened shredded coconut

½ cup whole-wheat panko breadcrumbs

24 large raw shrimp, peeled and deveined, tails left on

Cooking spray

Directions:

1. Combine sugar, vinegar, chile-garlic sauce, 1/2 cup water and 1/2 teaspoon salt in a small saucepan. Bring the mixture a boil over high heat; cook, stirring occasionally, until reduced slightly, about 5 minutes. Stir cornstarch and the remaining 2 tablespoons water together in a small bowl. Add to the mixture in the saucepan; cook, stirring occasionally, until bubbling and thickened, about 30 seconds. Remove the sauce from the heat and set aside.

2. Preheat air fryer to 400°F. Combine flour, garlic powder and the remaining 1/2 teaspoon salt in a shallow dish. Place egg whites in a separate shallow dish and whisk until frothy. Stir coconut and panko together in a third shallow dish. Dredge shrimp in the flour mixture and then dredge in the egg whites, shaking off excess; dredge in the coconut mixture, pressing to adhere.

3. Arrange half the shrimp in an even layer in the fryer basket; coat the shrimp well with cooking spray. Cook until crispy and golden, about 6 minutes. Transfer to a plate. Repeat the procedure with the remaining shrimp. Serve with the sauce.
