October 25, 1912: Minnie Pearl was born.

Minnie Pearl, the Southern vaudeville circuit performer, joined “The Grand Ole Opry” in 1940 and stayed for 50 years.

⭐ Late Bloomer Cathie Wood: From Risk-Taker to Finance Disruptor

In the world of finance, where risks are calculated, and young entrepreneurs often steal the spotlight, Cathie Wood took the biggest risk of her career at the age of 57. She left her position as chief investment officer at mutual fund and investment firm AllianceBernstein to embark on a new venture, founding Ark Invest. It all began when her three children, aged 15, 19, and 21, left home, leaving her with an unusually quiet house.

During this time, the idea of actively managed exchange-traded funds (ETFs) came to her. This concept didn't gain traction at AllianceBernstein, so she decided to strike out on her own in 2014. It wasn't an easy journey; it took three years for Ark Invest to break even, and Wood invested over $5 million of her own savings into the business. Many doubted her endeavor, with some even labeling it a "vanity project." Nevertheless, Cathie Wood was determined to prove them wrong.

Today, Ark Invest is one of the fastest-growing and top-performing investment firms globally, and Wood's stake in the firm has elevated her net worth to $250 million. Her path to success might not align with the narrative of the young, plucky founder often celebrated in the media, but it's a more common journey than one might think.

Wood's story is a reminder that entrepreneurship knows no age limit. The average age of American entrepreneurs founding businesses is 42, according to a 2019 MIT-Northwestern study, and the average age for the fastest-growing startups is even higher, at 45. Cathie Wood is among the growing number of entrepreneurs who have found success by pursuing their passions later in life.

CLASSIC POTATO SALAD TO TRY

👍 Live Well Now Approved

You Will Need:

3 lbs yukon gold potatoes

2 tbsp chives, finely chopped

2 tbsp Italian parsley, finely chopped

3/4 cup Persian cucumbers, diced

3/4 cup pickles (sweet or dill), diced

4 hard boiled eggs, roughly chopped

5-6 radishes, thinly sliced

Dressing

1/2 cup mayonnaise

2 tbsp olive oil

1 tbsp stone ground mustard

1/4 cup juice from pickle jar

1/2 tsp salt

fresh ground pepper, to taste

Directions:

1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a rapid boil.

2. Scrub and clean potatoes. Leaving skin on, cut potatoes into 1.5-2 inch pieces.

3. Add potatoes and cook until they can be pierced with a fork, about 10 minutes. Drain and run under cold water to stop them from continuing to cook.

4. When potatoes are completely cooled put them, along with chives, parsley, cucumbers, pickles, eggs and radishes, in a large bowl.

5. In a small bowl whisk all dressing ingredients until smooth. Pour the dressing over the salad and gently toss with a large spoon until potatoes are completely coated.

6. Garnish with extra chives, parsley and radishes. Enjoy!
